"It was the opportunities to keep opening up to new and different ideas that kept the spark glowing." _John Dancoff

Unlike some people, I cannot tell of any  specific "mountaintop experience" that changed my life.  My life has been more of a series of roller coaster rides.  There have been those great, uplifting experiences and then, of course, those down times.  The good thing is, as I continue to grow in my spirituality, the downs don't go nearly as far down as they use to and the ups seem to happen more often.

I was actually brought to Holy Cross by one of those down times.  I was dealing with a divorce and it was the counseling of  Pastor Jerry Peele, who was the Pastor at Holy Cross at that time, that influenced me to start attending worship there.  Coming from the Catholic Church, I felt comfortable with the service.  And then later on, I was lucky enough to find my present wife who also just happen to be Lutheran, so Holy Cross was the obvious place for us.

As time passed we became more and more active in the church, not only with activities directly at Holy Cross, but also with such things as Promise Keepers, Via de Cristo weekends, Alpha Conferences, etc. It was the opportunities to keep opening up to new and different ideas that kept the spark glowing.

But no matter what the activity or event, whether it's a normal Sunday service or a weekend retreat, it is the relationships that you build that make the difference.  To grow in spirit cannot happen all alone. It takes the love and caring of close church family to really experience the love that God has to offer.  And that is what we find in our church life at Holy Cross.
