I
came to Holy Cross as an “un-churched” person seeking a little
spiritual structure for my family. What
I found was Jesus. The people
of Holy Cross opened their arms wide to welcome me and my family and gave
us a place to grow as children of God.
I
came to church wondering what God could do for me.
I would never have believed that I had so much to give back to God.
Not growing up in the church, I knew very little.
When I was asked to teach Sunday School, I reluctantly agreed,
wondering how I could teach kids who knew way more about the Bible stories
than I did. But God knew best
how I could learn… through teaching!
Little by little I was encouraged to try other new things.
Before long, I went on a Via de
Cristo retreat where I encountered Jesus in a way I never had before.
It led me to uncover talents and gifts that I never realized I had!
That
is one of the very best things about Holy Cross!
There are limitless opportunities to discover your talents and
gifts and put them to use for God’s Kingdom… teaching, organizing,
art, creative writing, singing, playing instruments, acting, clowning,
speaking, comforting, mentoring, leading, serving, ministering, preaching
and even dreaming.
At
the center of all of it is a vital, growing, intimate relationship with
Jesus Christ. There is His
love and our love for one another and the desire to bring that love to
those who have not yet discovered it.
Every Christian needs the love, support and encouragement of
Christian community. I thank
God for the wonderful place He led me to.
